Several Injured in Car Accident on Highway 180 Near Academy Avenue
FRESNO COUNTY (March 14, 2019) – An alleged DUI driver has been arrested after causing a crash that injured several people along Highway 180 Saturday, March 9, according to The Fresno Bee.
The suspect, Julio Elenes, was booked into Fresno County Jail and expected to be charged with DUI and hit and run, both felonies.
California Highway Patrol said Elenes was driving west on Highway 180 when he crossed the center median and veered into the eastbound lanes.
He then hit three other vehicles on the highway, which is also known as East Kings Canyon Road. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m., just east of Academy Avenue.
Paramedics responded to the scene and attended to the occupants of the three cars that were struck by Elenes. The victim were transported to the hospital to be treated for minor to moderate injuries.
The total number of the patients and their names and condition were not immediately available.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that Elenes ultimately fled on foot following the collision. He was later found and detained by the officers.
